Terms
Last updated 29 October 2026
Owlsplit is run by OwlOpsCo. By using it you agree to these terms. They’re governed by the laws of the Philippines.
What the app does
It keeps a shared record of what a group spent and works out who owes whom. It does not move money between members: repayments happen outside the app, and marking one as paid only updates the record. Check the figures before you pay anyone — scanned receipts in particular can be misread.
Using it, with or without an account
- You can use the app as a guest. Signing in with Google or an email code is optional and keeps your trips on all your devices.
- Each name on a trip belongs to one person. Pick your own name, not someone else’s.
- The person who made a trip can delete it, and can switch on Only I can add expenses (Premium): then only they add, edit or delete expenses, while everyone else still sees them and settles up.
- When an expense is deleted, everyone else on the trip is told in the app, with what it was.
- Anyone on a trip who is signed in to an account can reset the device on someone’s name, for example after a lost phone. The name and everything recorded under it stay on the trip; that person joins again with the trip code and picks their name.
- You can leave a trip at any time, and delete your account from your profile. What happens to your information when you do is explained in the Privacy page.
Free and Premium
- Splitting, settling up, joining trips and payment QR codes are free.
- Free use includes 3 receipt scans a month. Everyone, Premium or not, is limited to a fair number of scans in a few minutes, to keep the service working for all.
- Premium costs ₱29 for 30 days. It doesn’t renew by itself: paying again adds 30 days on top of any time you have left. It needs a free account so it isn’t lost. Anyone who bought the earlier one-time Premium keeps it for good. It’s yours alone: you get the Premium features on every trip, and it doesn’t unlock them for the other people on those trips.
- Voucher codes we hand out either give Premium for free — for good, or for a set number of days counted from when you use the code — or take money off a Premium checkout. Each person can use a code once, and a code may have a limited number of uses or an end date. A discount code counts as used only when that checkout is paid, and can’t bring the price below ₱20 (the least PayMongo will charge) unless it takes the whole price off.
Payments and refunds
Payments are processed by PayMongo. Premium turns on once PayMongo confirms the payment. If you were charged but Premium did not turn on, or you paid twice by mistake, contact us with the email on your receipt and we’ll fix it or refund you.
What you add
You keep ownership of the photos, QR codes and details you add. You let us store them and show them to the people on the trips you share them with, so the app can work. Only add things you have the right to share.
Deadlines, paying in parts and late interest
The person who makes a trip can set a payment deadline for it. The deadline can repeat — every month, every 15th and 30th, or every 15 days — so a debt can be paid off in parts, with an amount due each time. They can also add late interest (Premium): up to 50% once, a week or a month, or up to 5% a day, charged only on what is overdue, and reminder emails.
All of this is an arrangement between the people on the trip, so agree on it together first. Owlsplit only works out and shows the amounts. It doesn’t lend money, collect interest, take part in any payment between members, or enforce a debt.
Fair use
Don’t try to get around the free scan allowance, guess other groups’ trip codes or voucher codes, take a name that isn’t yours, or use the app to store anything unlawful. We may limit or remove access that abuses the service.
Changes and no guarantee
We may change or improve the app, and update these terms; big changes will be posted under What’s new. We work to keep the app available and your data safe, but it’s provided as is. Keep your own copy of anything important: Premium can save a trip as a PDF statement and share each person’s bill as an image.
